Red Feather Development Group is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower American Indians by providing affordable housing and teaching sustainable building practices. The organization travels to Indian Reservations across the country, overseeing the design and construction of comfortable, energy-efficient housing.
In-floor radiant heating is a feature of nearly all Red Feather's homes because it is clean, efficient and practical. Before building the home on the Hopi Reservation, Red Feather began looking for ways to ensure that the radiant heating system would perform as efficiently as possible throughout the life of the structure. After lengthy research and discussions with respected building professionals regarding under-slab insulation, they decided on Insul-Tarp®.
Insul-Tarp® was delivered to the jobsite and installed over the subgrade by Red Feather's construction team. Installers were impressed by the easy handling and installation of the product. Large roll sizes allowed them to cover over 575 square feet at a time. In addition, Insul-Tarp's pliability made it possible to insulate the perimeter of the monolithic slab without making any cuts.
Insulation Solutions, Inc. has since become an official sponsor of Red Feather's Sustainable Housing Initiative. Insul-Tarp® will be used in three upcoming projects, including one at the Northern Cheyene Indian Reservation in Montana.
