Big Mountain Ski Resort in Whitefish, MT records an average snowfall of 300 inches annually. With that much snow coming down every year, keeping roadways and parking lots free of snow is no small task. When designers began planning the Slopeside Development, a luxury townhouse complex at base of the mountain, they decided to install a snowmelt system to help keep roadways clear of snow and ice build-up. Insul-Tarp® was chosen as the insulation to help the radiant system perform efficiently.
The Insul-Tarp® was purchased through MDM Supply Co. in Kalispell, MT and installed by Dow’s Custom Construction. The hydronic tubing and boiler system was installed by Haugenoe Plumbing of Kalispell, MT.
Approximately 17,000 square feet of Insul-Tarp® was used in this application. It was the obvious choice over large sheets of foam board that are difficult to work with and can crack easily. Insul-Tarp® is manufactured in rolls and conforms to the subsoil, so installation time is minimized and insulation performance is consistent.
