| Insul-Tarp® Out-Performs 2" Foam Board |
- October 31, 2005 Peoria, IL |
For years, Insul-Tarp® has been known to be a quick and easy way to satisfy under slab
insulation requirements for radiant heating systems. The large roll sizes, superior
moisture holdout, and pliable nature of the product make it an obvious choice for
those who want nothing to do with the hassles of rigid insulations.
But some have questioned the ability of Insul-Tarp® to perform once it is actually buried
underneath concrete. They wonder how the ½-inch product can insulate as well as
something that's 2-inches thick.
According to test data and testimonials sent to Insulation Solutions, Insul-Tarp® is not
only performing as good as rigid foam board, it's performing better.

Dave Viegut, Hydronic Heating Manager for Auer Steel of Wisconsin recently compared winter
heating bills for two apartment complexes in the state of Wisconsin. The buildings are
located within 3 miles of each other. Both structures were identical in their
components and construction except for two things: their size (building #1 was 9,600 s.f.,
building #2 was 19,200 s.f.) and the type of under slab insulation used (building #1 used
rigid foam, building #2 used Insul-Tarp®).
Over the course of three months, Mr. Viegut noted a significant difference between the
amounts of money spent on each complex's utilities. Building #1 cost an average of $0.54/sf
to heat while Building #2 cost an average of $0.31/sf. Viegut calculated that using Insul-Tarp® instead of foam board increased the system's efficiency by nearly 40%!
Achieving better performance in a smaller amount of space seems to be the goal in many
industries. With the information Insulation Solutions is receiving from their customers,
it appears Insul-Tarp® has accomplished exactly that.
Insulation Solutions uses the latest in insulating technology to bring high performance,
high quality, and high efficiency products to today's construction market. For more
